Libertarian Qualifies for Florida Senate Race, Offers ‘Stark Contrast’ to Rubio, Demings

Libertarian candidate Dennis Misigoy has qualified in the Florida Senate race and he says his campaign “offers a stark contrast to the policy positions offered by mainstream establishment candidates,” who are Republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Val Demings. Calling himself an “outsider,” the Libertarian also said “there is certain to be widespread resistance to all aspects of his policy platform.”

“Floridians possess a unique spirit of independence and distrust of establishment authority, all across an ocean of diverse cultural identities,” Misigoy said. “It is only appropriate that our state should be represented, not by politicians committed to serving team red or team blue, but by an outsider committed to pursuing peace and upholding the U.S. Constitution and the principles of individual liberty.”

According to his campaign, Misigoy is the only candidate on the November ballot who is committed to completely ending U.S. involvement in foreign intervention conflicts, like Yemen, and “drastically reducing the ever-growing, bloated defense budgets which enable these policies.” The Libertarian says both Senator Rubio and Representative Demings “have consistently voted for every NDAA and spending increase.”

“Dennis Misigoy recognizes the outrageousness of a military budget that has already eclipsed three quarters of a trillion dollars at a time when Americans are forced to carry a thirty trillion dollar national debt and suffering under record inflation, all to combat enemies who pose no threat to the U.S. and inevitably inspire the next generation of terrorist attacks against America,” the Libertarian campaign said.

On the major issue ahead of Election Day and as Floridians struggle with high inflation, Misigoy added, “the solutions offered by Rubio and Demings continue to be nothing but more misguided attempts at central economic planning, doomed to only exacerbate the problems Floridians and all Americans face.” In contrast, Misigoy said he will attack the root cause of this issue: “the irresponsible monetary policy of the Federal Reserve, as well as offering the only possible means of escape from this disaster: a free market in currencies that would allow Americans to transact using cryptocurrencies or any other alternatives without restrictions,” he said.

On other issues, he also stands apart from the Republican and Democratic candidates, pledging to strongly advocate for policing reforms such as ending qualified immunity, civil asset forfeiture, and no knock raids, as well calling for a complete end to the drug war and a massive reduction in the size and scope of the federal government.

Misigoy is a former local elected official and lifelong Floridian, who lived in Miami-Dade County and moved to Central Florida last year with his wife and three children. He is a former educator and a software development professional. In the November 2016 general election, he was elected to Seat 1 on the Board of Supervisors of the Enclave at Black Point Community Development District, where he served as Chairman for four years.

In that role, Misigoy says he overcame conflicts with other supervisors to cut spending that saved the community over 78% of the funds previously approved for a slate of unpopular projects and increased transparency by making public meetings accessible.
