Embrace Families Provided Youth in Foster Care a Special Teen Break

A group of 10 local teenagers in foster care spent their spring break preparing for the future by exploring potential career interests.

As the lead nonprofit agency overseeing child welfare in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties, Embrace Families strives to provide youth in foster care with the same experiences that peers in traditional families have – which ultimately led to the creation of the Teen Break program.

During Spring Break 2022, Embrace Families took the group of 15-to-17-year-olds on a “staycation” adventure in Kissimmee that included work readiness training seminars, designed to prepare them for an internship this summer. They also had the opportunity to tour the downtown UCF/Valencia College campus, meet with career counselors, and shadow various jobs at the Columbia Restaurant in Celebration before sitting down at a table for a fine dining experience.

“We want to give our teens a solid foundation for a bright future,” said Glen Casel, President and CEO at Embrace Families. “That includes giving them opportunities for exploration, and ensuring they have access to experiences they might not have had otherwise.”

Embrace Families is looking for business owners who would be interested in providing an internship opportunity to a teen in foster care this summer. For more information, contact Shannon Harding at [email protected].
