This month, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida hosted two events with the goal of generating needed donations that serve as a lifeline for the organization. Thanks to the support of the greater Orlando community, thousands of donations were made to Goodwill locations across Central Florida.
On March 15th, Goodwill commemorated International Shoe the World Day by inviting community members to donate gently used shoes to their local Goodwill store or Donation Xpress Center. The nonprofit processed nearly 4,700 pairs of shoes across all six counties on Tuesday, including a donation of 230 pairs of shoes from Operation Shared Shoes – an organization that collects shoes for those in need. International Shoe the World Day sheds light on the importance of and need for quality footwear for millions of people worldwide who can’t afford or don’t have access to it.
The nonprofit also hosted a “Drop and Shop” event on Saturday, March 19th that encouraged donations of needed items, like shoes, jeans, women’s tops, summer wear, household linens and small appliances in exchange for a 10% off coupon for the donor’s next visit. The nonprofit received a total of 5,696 donations across all Central Florida locations – a 12.9% increase from the donations received on the same day in 2021.
Donations fuel Goodwill’s mission of “Building Lives That Work” by providing low-cost goods to the community while also providing resources and jobs to Central Floridians. Revenue generated through sales of these donated items fund the organization’s job placement and training services, as well as its vocational rehabilitation program.
It’s a great community update that reflects the heart of Orlando.
