On Monday, August 1, 2016, the Young Democrats of Orange County announced the third debate of their Central Florida Democratic Primary Debate Series. The debate will feature State House Districts 45 & 46, both contested primaries with a total of seven candidates between both races. The topics of the debate will be focused on criminal justice reform and improving Florida’s economy and jobs outlook.
The debate will be held on Thursday, August 4th, 2016 at the Orlando Firefighter’s Union Hall, located at 4005 N. Orange Blossom Trail (Orlando 32804), from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Each debate will last one hour and will be moderated by House Minority Leader Representative Mark Pafford and Gunster Attorney Derek Bruce.
“We, the Young Democrats of Orange County, are excited to host our third debate this election cycle after two very successful debates held over the last few months,” said Robert Walters, President of the YDOC. “This debate will showcase two districts, home to some of the lowest wages in the state and we are proud to offer these debates at no cost to the public during a time of the day very accessible to many constituents of the districts. We find that it is our responsibility as a progressive organization to offer this invaluable experience to let candidates display their platforms to their voters and the community.”
For State House District 45, Kamia Brown, Kelvin Cobaris, Greg Jackson and William Jusme will be in attendance, attempts to reach out to Peter Pham were unanswered. For House District 46, Representative Bruce Antone and Sheena Meade have confirmed for the debate.
With House Districts 45 & 46 covering the heart of Central Florida, the Young Democrats are emphasizing the importance of electing true progressives who share the same platform of the communities they represent. Low wages, unchecked police brutality, failing infrastructure and a lack of employment opportunities are just some of the many problems that representatives will need to address if elected. The debate hopes to be an opportunity to allow the candidates to truly express why they are running and explain how they will fixed the problems in their districts.
