SCPS Names 2017 Teacher of the Year

And the winner is…

SCPS-TOY-1On March 17th, Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) named its 2017 Teacher of the Year, Mr. Chris Pombonyo of Crystal Lake Elementary School. Mr. Pombonyo is a first-grade teacher at Crystal Lake Elementary School in Lake Mary, FL.  He also teaches drama.

As part of this prestigious award, Mr. Pombonyo will receive a Teacher of the Year ring from Herff Jones; a Mousecar Award (see photo below) from Walt Disney World Resort and a Disney Annual Pass; and $1,000 from the Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools. Topping it off, he will also get a year’s lease of a 2016 Buick courtesy of Carl Black Chevrolet/Buick/GMC.

SCPS-TOY-2Previously, Mr. Pombonyo worked at Seminole County’s Midway Elementary School of the Arts. In addition to all of his time and dedication to Crystal Lake Elementary, Mr. Pombonyo actively seeks opportunities to coach and mentor his peers in the teaching profession.  Currently, he reaches thousands of followers with his Famous in First blog.  He has also been given the distinguished opportunity to speak about his passion for education at both local and national conferences.  When he’s not busy helping others, he also is the host of Lights! Camera! Teach!, which is a part of the programming for the iTeach TV Network.

Mr. Pombonyo will go on to represent Seminole County in the state Teacher of the Year competition. SCPS employs approximately 2,265 Elementary School Teachers, 1,020 Middle School Teachers and 1,285 High School Teachers.
