Orlando: 9th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff Event, September 10

Hispanic-HM-Pic-option-2-615x345Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 2 City Commissioner Tony Ortiz will host the 9th Annual City of Orlando’s Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff event on Thursday, September 10 to celebrate the influence of Hispanic culture in Orlando.
This free event will celebrate the commencement of Hispanic Heritage month, which runs from September 5 to October 15, 2015.  The month honors the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The starting date coincides with the Independence Commemoration of several Latin American countries.
This year’s event will highlight Puerto Rico and will feature Latin music, food and folkloric dancers. Guests will also be able to visit the art exhibit “La Diaspora” at the Terrace Gallery in City Hall that will showcase a diverse collection of art pieces from Central Florida emerging and veteran Puerto Rican artists. After its debut at City Hall, the exhibit will tour various cities in the United States and Puerto Rico.
