City Launches New Anti-Bullying Initiative

053111-Shows-Everyone-Hates-ChrisOrlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join with students and business leaders on Thursday, October 23, to announce the launch of the City’s new anti-bullying initiative. This community-wide campaign will partner with local organizations to provide year-round education to students, an outreach coordinator and increase awareness throughout the entire community.
WHY:
Today, more than 1 in 4 students reports being bullied throughout the school year. A 2012 study by the Center for Disease Control revealed that students who experience bullying are more likely to develop depression, anxiety and school adjustment behavioral issues, while those who bully are at an increased risk for substance use, academic problems and violence later in life and into adulthood.
