After working for months behind the scenes to help shape health care legislation, the insurance industry put out a Report Monday which concludes that the Senate’s health care legislation would dramatically increase cost to consumers.
The report, commissioned by America’s Health Insurance Plans comes on the eve of a key vote which takes place tomorrow in the Senate Finance Committee.
The White House and congressional Democrats reacted sharped to the report indicating that it is a “hatchet job”.
The AARP Executive Vice President John Rother dismissed the Report by the insurance industry saying, “I really don’t think it’s worth the paper it’s written on,” “If anyone believes it, that’s a problem.”
The Senate Finance Committee is set to vote on wide-ranging legislation that aims to extend coverage to the millions of uninsured Americans, and as well, contain uncontrollable health care cost.
Meanwhile, the insurance companies fear that the new legislation could lead to reduced revenues, hence their attack on the health care legislation.
