Crist’s Empty Message To Florida’s Small Business

Governor Charlie Crist issued today a statement on the role that Florida’s small business plays, but it said nothing.

The Governor indicated that small business represents nearly 99 percent of the employers, nationally, and that Florida is home to 1.9 million.   But beyond that, there wasn’t anything else.

Why couldn’t the Governor say something perhaps on new policy measures aimed at shoring up the small businesses, many of which are doing badly right now?  In these difficult economic times, many small business have closed or have laid off workers.

Why couldn’t Crist have announced programs to encourage new small enterprises?  Maybe there aren’t any.

So, what light is being beamed on small businesses in the month of October?

You judge whether or not there is any substance in Governor Crist’s message, below.

“Hello, my fellow Floridians.

October, Small Business Month, is a perfect opportunity to shine a light on the role small business plays in our communities and our economy.

According to the Small Business Administration, small businesses represent nearly 99 percent of the employers in this country, and Florida is home to 1.9 million of her own. They account for nearly 60 percent of all new jobs created in the Sunshine State.

Florida’s economy, like that of the rest of our nation, is only as strong as the businesses and entrepreneurial spirit that fuel it.  It is my hope that October’s focus will help make us more aware of the economic opportunities small businesses provide to Florida’s workforce, and their ongoing contribution to the Sunshine State’s marketplace.

I am grateful to Florida’s existing small business community and am confident that Florida’s talent and innovation will help build a brighter and better future for all of Florida.

Thank you, and God bless you”.
