A man attempted to steal a 2012 corvette from Ocala Ford Motors on Monday night, but he couldn’t drive a stick shift, Marion County deputies say.
Annas Abdel-Khaliq was caught in the corvette, but couldn’t move the vehicle more than 100 feet.
A deputy ordered Annas out of the vehicle, but he refused. As the deputy attempted to disengage the gear shift and disconnect the seatbelt, Annas grabbed a steel bar and struck him several times.
Annas was pepper sprayed by a backup deputy, at which point he attempted to flee the scene.
Annas has been charged with aggravated battery on a Law Enforcement Office, burglary, grand theft of an automobile and possession of burglary tools.
Annas was booked into the Marion County Jail.
