While his political opponents are talking about what they plan to do if they are elected, Attorney Greg Jackson is out working in the community he is seeking to serve and having a positive impact. In November 2013, Attorney Jackson partnered with other community leaders, business owners, residents and educators to coordinate and host the first-ever Writing Contest at Lockhart Middle School.
As a member of the School Advisory Council for Lockhart, Attorney Jackson learned that the schools writing FCAT scores declined by 43 points. Wanting to help the student get excited about writing, while teaching them critical writing skills to succeed on the February 2014 writing portion of the FCAT, Attorney Jackson worked with the school to formulate the criteria for the Writing Contest – What Community Means to Me. Over 800 hundred student participated in the contest, of which 15 of the top 60 essay writers were selected by 12 judges to attend an award ceremony to announce the winner, who received a $50 gift card, a gift from Chic-Fil-A and a writing kit.
“For far too long the community has had to endure empty promises and no action,” Attorney Jackson said while addressing to audience attending the Award Program. “However, when I see a need in the community, that is an indication to me to get to work and address the needs of the community.” The fact that Attorney Jackson organized and raised all of the money for this event which was successful is admirable. The fact that he did it all while actively campaigning to become the next District 2 Commissioner for Orange County shows he is a true leader. This is a refreshing twist to politics as we know it in Central Florida and we are looking forward to tracking Attorney Jackson’s rise as a potential political powerhouse.
