Drivers in two separate car crashes were killed in Orange County on Sunday night, Florida Highway Patrol said.
Patrick Tahaney, 24, of Windermere lost control of the 2006 Dodge Charger he was driving north on Turkey Lake Road near Crestlake Drive, troopers said. The vehicle barreled through several yards, struck a fence and two trees, just after 6:00 p.m.
Tahaney was pronounced dead on the spot by the medical examiner.
Two passengers in the Dodge were hurt, one seriously. Chad Siplin, 25, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Ryan Siefker, 22, sustained minor injuries.
It is unknown whether or not alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Troopers said, the investigation is continuing.
Meanwhile, Alex Gomez-Guerrero, 20, of Mascotte, was killed in a separate crash on John Young Parkway near Cathy Street, around 6:40 p.m.
Troopers said, Gomez-Guerrero was heading southbound on John Young Parkway and for an unknown reason failed to stop and struck a Chrysler van from behind.
According to news reports, Gomez-Guerrero was stopped in the middle of the roadway and was being questioned by law enforcement just before he took off and slammed into the back of the Chrysler van.
The Ford Edge Gomez-Guerrero was driving overturned on impact and he was ejected, dying on the spot.
The Chrysler van which caught on fire was carrying 5 passengers, all of whom received minor injuries. Jorge Santana, 52, of Brazil was driving the van.
Troopers said, this crash also remains under investigation.
