It’s 2014, a new year, a new day and a new time
No matter how much you loved the previous year, this year will be different. No matter how much you enjoyed 2013, this year will not be the same. No matter how much you want to replicate, relive it or go back in time, you cannot go back!
I know some women that have been 29-years old for 20 years. Lying about your age will not help you to be 29 forever. You can color your hair, buy a wig or purchase a weave but grey hair will show up somewhere on your body when it’s time for grey to show up.
Many African Americans are glad to see a new year. They hope a new year will change their bank accounts, change their careers, change their housing status from foreclosures to paid off mortgages, change their health status from poor health to a healthy body and they want to change their bad habits to good habits.
Some people need to or want to change their friends, change their situations, change their opportunities and change their relationships.
But if your life is going to be different, you have to change yourself!
Yes, I know when you leave town to go to school, serve in the military or to find employment in another location you return home and seem to find the same guys on the corner or the same women at the night club.
However, don’t ever think things have not changed. If you’re still getting high, still chasing hood rats, still over eating, still crying, still lying and still hating you have probably changed for the worse!
You are probably fatter, dumber, more unhealthy, more unproductive and far more stressed!
Since 2014 is a New Year the New Year should result in a new you!
In Biblical days, God told his people to leave places like Sodom because of all of the sin that was going on in the city. The people that loved God said if its God’s will, leaving would be no problem. Others said, “Why should I leave here? Why should I leave all of this wine, all of these whores and all of this money?”
God told them to leave because he was going to destroy the city. He told the people to leave and to not look back. Of course, some looked back on their way out of town and those that did were turned into stone!
We can’t go back to our hateful ways, our decadent lifestyles, our wicked activities or our crabs in a barrel mentality!
African Americans can’t depend on the Democratic Black President or the devilish Republican Congress members to improve our lives.
We must depend on ourselves. We must depend on each other.
The status quo in America is not good for the status of Black people. We can’t go back if we intend to move forward!
What the new year will bring depends on what you bring to the new year!
