A new $60 million, 115,000-square-foot patient tower at Osceola Regional Medical Center, an affiliate of HCA West and Central Florida, will soon open its doors to the community.
The three-floor tower will house 64 state-of-the-art private rooms – 12 rooms will be designated for the Neuro Sciences Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients; 18 will be for patients needing an intermediate level of care; 14 will be for cancer patients and the other 20 will be utilized by our Orthopedics & Spine Center. The hospital’s bed count will increase from 257 to 321.
“The new patient services tower represents the hospital’s commitment to the health of our community. It’s really an investment in the people of Osceola County and Kissimmee, and these are growing areas that need quality medical services now more than ever,” Atlee Mercer, Chair of the Osceola Regional Medical Center Board of Directors.
Construction of the new patient tower began in April of 2012. Osceola Regional invested more than $7 million on technology and medical equipment to outfit the new units. The opening of the tower will begin with the relocation of the Orthopedic & Spine Center, which will be significantly enhanced for better patient care. The Center will include the Comprehensive Fracture Program where patients are managed by an integrated team of orthopedic, spine and neuro surgeons, anesthesiologists, specialized nurses, case managers and physical and occupational therapists. These experienced professionals will work together to create plans that best manage the care of fracture patients from surgery to rehabilitation. The new unit will have a Physical Therapy Gym with necessary equipment to help patients transition from surgery to home, and will offer a Resource Room where patients and their visitors can retreat for coffee and snacks.
In addition to the Orthopedic & Spine Center, the following units are expected to be relocated and phased in the following weeks before the New Year.
· The Neuro Sciences Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) will provide care for critically ill patients with brain injury or disease of the central and peripheral nervous system, who require constant monitoring and care.
· The Progressive Care Unit (Neuro Step-down PCU) will be for patients with neurological conditions such as TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack), syncope, seizures, post neurological surgeries, and complex spine injuries/surgeries that require progressive levels of care.
· The Medical Oncology Unit will be used for the care of cancer patients, and is specially designed for their needs and comfort.

St. Louis-based HOK is the architect, and Lend Lease (US) Construction LMB Inc. is the contractor.
