Floridians rally in Orlando to protect the right to vote

Florida voters will gather today for a rally and press conference at the Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office in Orlando to stress the importance of protecting the right of eligible voters to vote without obstacles or intimidation and voice their very serious concerns about the Scott Administration’s second attempt to purge voters from the voting rolls.

They want to make sure that all Florida voters are aware of the consequences that another round of error-filled purge lists pose to their rights and ensure that Secretary of State Ken Dentzer, who will be in Orlando speaking about the topic later that day, is aware of their concerns and relays them to the Governor.

Rick Scott’s Administration spent over $100,000 of taxpayer money during their first voter purge attempt, producing lists with hundreds and hundreds of citizens that local Supervisors of Elections proved were legally registered voters.  The vast majority of those on the purge list were people of color.  It was a costly embarrassment that Floridians fear will be repeated.

Former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings will be joined by Florida voters on Monday.  Demings will outline citizens’ concerns about the Scott Administration’s latest purge attempt.
