Governor Charlie Crist is opposed to the proposed Florida Power and Light rate increase of $1.3 billion, annually.
Crist in a statement on Tuesday said that the proposed rate hike is “excessive” and expressed the view that, it should be rejected by the Public Service Commission.
Meanwhile, the FPL has said that the rate increases would not be excessive and that monies are needed to improve fuel efficiency and prevent future rate increases.
Crist joints others like GOP Attorney General Bill McCollum and Democratic Alex Sink, both of whom are running in the upcoming gobanatorial race.
A panel is currently holding hearings on the proposed rate increase and a decision would be made later in the year.
