“Face” of the Future: Talking Head to Replace Texting? (Video)

A digital talking head could be the face of the future, replacing text messaging, if researchers at the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering and Toshiba’s Cambridge Research Lab have their way.

The system, called “Zoe” would allow a contact’s face to pop up on a person’s phone and “speak” whatever the contact’s text message said.

The ultimate goal of the “face messaging” project is to link friends’ photos to their phone numbers, outlookseries.com reports.  So, before long, users will be able to customize and personalize their own emotionally realistic, digital assistant.

If this can be developed, then a user could, for example, text the message “I’m going to be late” and ask it to set the emotion to “frustrated.” Their friend would then receive a “face message” that looked like the sender, repeating the message in a frustrated way, outlookseries.com also reported.
