3 Arrested in Fatal Goldenrod Hit and Run Case

Homicide Detectives from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office have arrested the following individuals for the fatal hit and run that took place on September 8, 2009 on Goldenrod Road.

They are: Justin Stewart, 18, Victor Vargas, 19 years, and Shirley Daniels, 16 years.

Deputies responded to the road rage incident where the victim, Monica Salama, 24, was struck and killed by a suspect driving a late 1990 model, 4-door Nissan Altima, black in color.

Deputies had received information which suggested that an altercation between Salama and the suspect had occurred at “Revolutions” bar located on Bumby Avenue in Orlando.

Salama and her female friend left the bar and upon getting on the 408 realized the suspect was following her.  Someone from the suspect’s vehicle threw an object at the victim’s vehicle breaking her windshield.  Salama and the suspect exited the 408 onto Goldenrod Road where the altercation continued. Salama exited her vehicle and confronted the suspects.

An unknown male who was a passenger in the suspect vehicle exited and ran up to the passenger in the victim’s vehicle and began striking her.

The suspect, driving his own vehicle, intentionally hit the victim resulting in her death. The suspect who was striking the victim’s female passenger ran back to the Nissan and they fled the area southbound on Goldenrod Road.

A witness came forward with information identifying the suspects.  The suspects along with the vehicle used in the crime were located and recovered at 2501 Ives Avenue in Orlando.

The suspects did speak to investigators about the altercation that occurred at the nightclub on the night of the incident.

Justin Stewart was charged with 1st Degree Murder; Victor Vargas and Shirley Daniels were charged with Accessory After the Fact.
