Nearly 100 community and business leaders attended the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Tip Off Reception on Wednesday night for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. Held at the offices of GrayRobinson P.A., the reception served as an unofficial first meeting for members of the LOC and introduced local business executives to ticket sales initiatives for the tournament.

The NCAA Basketball LOC, co-chaired by Mayor Buddy Dyer and Mayor Teresa Jacobs, is comprised of a team of more than 60 business and community leaders that will help manage the event by serving on one of four sub-committees which will begin meeting in August, to plan for March Madness in Orlando.

“A really good basketball game is as much about the people in the stands as it is the players,” said Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs. “If we sell those tickets and we pack the place. And we are having fun, then we are a success, and we will have opportunities for these types of events again and again.”

“With this event, we have the opportunity to showcase Orlando and the Amway center as the future host of many more NCAA and collegiate championships” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, who was not able to attend the reception. “But it is imperative that we set the tone with this event. In an effort to maximize this opportunity at the Amway Center, we need your help spreading the word across the region and committing your support of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.”

Tickets for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament are $198 for the Promenade Level and $258 for the Terrace Level. Each ticket provides admission to all 6 games that will be held at the Amway Center next March. Tickets will not go on sale to the general public until October, however local businesses and residents can sign up to receive more information, along with pre-sale opportunities at www.centralfloridasports.org/ncaa.

Hosted by Stetson University and the Central Florida Sports Commission, in partnership with the City of Orlando, Orange County and the University of Central Florida, the 2nd and 3rd Rounds of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament will be held at the Amway Center, March 20-22, 2014.
