A tractor trailer caught fire at the Semoran Boulevard toll plaza on the East-West Expressway on Tuesday afternoon, leading to the closure of several lanes on the 408.
39-year-old Boanerges Robinson, the driver of the 18-wheeler, told Orlando police he heard a “pop” and the truck swerved and struck the nearby concrete barrier. On impact the truck caught fire.
Robinson was taken to Florida Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He told police that he believed that one of the tires blew out on the truck.
The truck was transporting dry wall material and debris spilled on to the roadway.
Traffic was backed up for miles on eastbound lanes, as some lanes were closed for several hours.
It is not clear yet whether Robinson would face any charges.
