Speculation
The recent announcement that Val Deming will replace Mike McCoy as OPD Chief has fueled a lot of speculation in some circles lately.  Most notably is speculation as to whether this would undermine Jerry Deming’s candidacy for Orange County Sheriff.

Could it be, according to the speculators that the the two mayors are trying to undermine Jerry Deming’s effort to become the next Orange County Sheriff by presenting a noble but complex issue before Orange County and City of Orlando voters?

Jerry Deming is certainly more than qualified to be Orange County Sheriff, and to many would be a welcome replacement to the current man holding the job.  Many will recall that Mr. Deming did a great job as OPD Chief, and performed masterfully during the 2004 hurricane season.

The question is what will voters think about the two top law enforcement officers being husband and wife?

I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

  1. The Sheriff is the highest ranking law enforcement official in the county. All city chiefs are subordinate. Since city chiefs and the county sheriff are public servants/government employees, is it wise to allow a situation to occur where the Sheriff techinically supervises his wife (the chief)? This would not be allowed in one agency. Should it be allowed in one county.
