In perhaps a turnaround in the fortunes of Orange County Public Schools (OCPS), the School Board on Tuesday said the district has saved several million dollars on two recently completely comprehensive renovation projects.
Gotha Middle and Palm Lake Elementary Schools’ renovations came in under budget at a cost of $1.3 million and $2.0 million, respectively.
In February, the Orange County Public Schools’ (OCPS) Construction Division was accused of waste and mis-management by an independent audit.
Gotha Middle School’s renovations entailed a new central heating/air conditioning system, energy system, fire alarm upgrades, new restrooms, new classroom technology and audio enhancements as well as a new softball field and tennis courts on nearby acquired property.
The Palm Lake Elementary School renovation included two (2) two-story classroom buildings; improved technology and lighting throughout the campus and a new central heating/air conditioning system.
Earlier this year, the School Board reported Conway Middle School, another comprehensive renovation project, had come in at $1.6 million under budget.
