On Thursday, the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees approved a 15 percent increase in tuition for the 2012 fall semester.
If the 15 percent increase is approved by the UCF Board of Governors, it will generate $20 million for the university.
The proposed increase means an additional $19.24 per credit hour, increasing tuition from $128.28 per credit hour to $147.52 per credit hour for undergraduates.
The 15 percent would translate into an increase of $11.08 for graduate students, or from $277.08 per credit hour to $288.16 per credit hour — a 4 percent increase.
The Board of Trustees also approved other fee increases, including the athletic fee and capital improvement fee.
Over the last five years, the UCF has seen a repeated slashing of its budget by Tallahassee to the tune of $144 million or 49 percent.
The university faces a one-time cut of $52.6 million in state funding in the upcoming budget year.
