Great Food in a Country Atmosphere at Sunday’s Country Cookin

I’m always on the prowl for new places to try and I found another good one in Sunday’s Country Cookin. Next store to the thrift store on Hansel Avenue, Sunday’s has been open for over seven years. I don’t recall the original name but four years ago it changed to Sunday’s Country Cookin and it fits the place very well. At one time it was a Ranch House then numerous other types of places; finally it became the fine locally owned establishment it is today.

I’ve been many times and have never had a bad experience. The place has been packed each time I’ve been, most recently was over the weekend. On my many visits I’ve had both lunch and breakfast items and they’ve all been excellent.

This last excursion I had a western omelet that contained ham, cheese of my choice, green peppers, and onions with a side of grits, hash browns or home fries and bread or biscuit. All this for only $6.39. It was very filling and delicious. I took a friend this time who had a roast beef sandwich that he said was absolutely delightful for $6.49 with a choice of chips or French Fries.

I’ve also had on other visits the tuna melt and different burgers as well and all are delicious. There are several different types of salads and there is a kids menu as well. All are reasonably priced

But no mention of this place would be complete without talking about the servers. All are efficient caring ladies who convey the laid back feel that is so much a part of the place. They treat everyone as if they were a regular customer, something lacking in so many other restaurants. They also joke with customers and their suggestions of desserts sound fantastic. The desserts are Waffle Sundae topped with ice cream, chocolate syrup and nuts $3.89, Root Beer Float $2.89, Cobbler of the day$3.29, Pie of the day, and the one that was the most interesting was something named Éclair Pie. My friend and I were just too full to indulge in any of these items.

They have little sayings posted on the walls of the place and on the menu is one that says “Mighty Fine! Well I have to admit this is a place for Mighty Fine dining.
