Zimmerman Does not Properly Respect the Law says Judge

George Zimmerman was ordered back to jail more than a week ago, but a Seminole County judge had some harsh words in the order revoking his bond filed Monday.

Judge Kenneth Lester wrote that while there are certain factors in Zimmerman’s favor, there are several others that weigh against his release from jail.

“…This is a serious charge for which life may be imposed; the evidence against him is strong; he has been charged with one prior crime, for which he went through a pre-trial diversion program, and has had an injunction lodged against him,” Judge Lester wrote. “Most importantly, though, is the fact that he has now demonstrated that he does not properly respect the law or the integrity of the judicial process.”

Judge Lester revoked Zimmerman’s bond, after it was determined that he and his wife, Shelly Zimmerman were not truthful about their financial situation at an earlier bond hearing in April. Then, Shelly Zimmerman portrayed the couple as having no financial means. Zimmerman did not contradict her and bond was set at $150,000.

Subsequently, prosecutors learned that the couple had transferred approximately $135,000 from monies raised from a website Zimmerman had set up for his legal defense, into his personal bank account.

“Had the Court been made aware of his true financial circumstances at the bond hearing, the bond decision might have been different,” Judge Lester wrote in the bond revocation order.

Judge Lester continued: “It is apparent that Shelly Zimmerman testified untruthfully at the bond hearing. The Defendant also testified, but did not alert the Court to the misinformation. Therefore, this Court is authorized to revoke or modify the Defendant’s bond.”

At the June 1st hearing, prosecutors also alleged Zimmerman had two passports and not one, as he had asserted. “Neither the Defendant nor his wife mentioned the existence of this second passport during their testimony,” Judge Lester wrote.

A second bond hearing for Zimmerman is set for June 29.

28-year-old George Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, 17, an unarmed black teen, in late February.

Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty and said, he shot the teen in self defense.
