Young Democrats in Florida’s 6th Congressional District Post Candidate Forum

The Young Democrats of Volusia County, Flagler County, Marion County, and St. John’s County held a candidate forum for Florida’s 6th Congressional District this month.

The virtual event, which took place over Zoom, featured Democratic candidates George “Ges” Selmont and Josh Weil, both vying to represent the district in the upcoming primary election.

Voters were able to hear directly from the candidates on critical issues, including affordable housing, environmental protection, and economic growth in the district.

Attendees included Young Democrats and voters from across the four counties who were eager to learn more about the candidates’ visions for the future of CD6.

“Our goal was to provide an opportunity for young voters to be able to educate themselves by hearing from the people that will be on their ballot and how to be able to engage in local politics,” said Nicole Hammer, Vice President of the Florida Young Democrats and President of the Volusia Young Democrats. “We were thrilled by the turnout and the productive discussion from both candidates.”

Ges Selmont and Josh Weil fielded questions submitted by attendees and questions prepared by the young Democrat groups in the district, addressing the pressing concerns of young voters and outlining their plans to bring effective leadership to the district.

The race for Florida’s 6th Congressional District is to replace Republican Representative Michael Waltz, who left Congress to be President Donald Trump’s White House National Security Advisor.

The primary election is scheduled for January 28th and the general election will be April 1, 2025.
