The Young Democrats of Orange County are preparing for the second debate of their Central Florida Democratic Primary Debate series. The upcoming debate on June 7th will feature State House Districts 47 & 48, both contested primaries with a total of five candidates between both races. The topics of the debate will be focused on education policy as well as improving Florida’s economy and jobs outlook.
The debate will be held on Tuesday, June 7th, 2016 in the Moot Courtroom at Barry University of Law, located at 6441 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32807, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Each debate will last one hour and will be moderated by Former Florida State Representative Karen Castor Dentel and Florida Trend Associate Editor Jason Garcia.
“With the success of our State Senate Debate, the Young Democrats knew we could move forward and continue to host candidate debates which the community has been in dire need of,” said Robert Walters, President of the YDOC. “We want to ensure that the voters and our membership know who they are voting for and we feel like, since no one else is doing it, it is up to us to host these debates.”
For State House District 47, Attorneys Henry Lim and Clint Curtis have confirmed for the debate, Beth Tuura informed the Young Democrats of Orange County she will not be in attendance. For House District 48, longtime Democratic staffer and union organizer Alex Barrio and Former Orange County DEC Chair Amy Mercado have confirmed for the debate.
The Young Democrats have promised to help take back the Republican-held House District 47 and elect a candidate who will support bold, progressive legislation, “not legislation bought and paid for by corporations and special interests.”
