Wrong Way: Jobless Rate Moves Up

The jobless rate in Orange County edged up to 9.0 percent in July, 0.3 percent higher than in June, but 1.7 percent below the 10.8 percent recorded one year ago.

The unemployment rates in the other counties were: 9.8 percent in Osceola County, 8.5 percent in Seminole County and 7.3 percent in Sumter. Lake County recorded the highest jobless rate, 9.9 percent.

For the Central Florida region as a whole – Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Sumter counties – the unemployment rate was 9.0 perccent in July, up from 8.7 percent from the month before, according to data released Friday.

The state’s unemployment rate also ticked up to 8.8 percent in July, from 8.6 percent in June 2012.

The Department of Economic Opportunitity said, the total number of jobs in July decreased by 3,300 from June, state-wide.
