World’s Top Golfer Fined $164 for Careless Driving

In a brief news conference held this afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said that Tiger Woods would be issued with a uniform traffic citation for careless driving and that he was at fault in relation to his single car crash.

Further, FHP said that Woods would not face criminal charges and with the traffic citation, they would be closing their investigation.

“Despite the celebrity status of Mr. Woods, the Florida Highway Patrol has completed its investigation in the same professional manner it strives to complete each traffic investigation,” Sgt. Kim Montes said.

Woods who crashed his SUV Escalade into a fire hydrant and subsequently into a tree on Friday morning at 2:30 am, has not spoken publicly about the details of the crash and refused to speak with state troopers on three separate occasions.

The world’s top golfer also withdrew from his own golf tournament which he was scheduled to play, citing cuts and bruises, arising from the car accident.

For days since Woods crashed his car, speculation swirled that that there could have been a dispute between the professional golfer and his wife, Elin, over a National Enquirer published story alleging that he had been seeing a New York night club hostess. The woman in question, Rachael Uchitel, has repeatedly denied having an affair with Woods.

FHP said that Woods had satisfied the requirements of Florida law and that there were no claims of domestic violence by any individual.

FHP state troopers took no questions from the media at the press conference.
