More than 100 Floridians, including doctors, nurses and teachers, will travel to Tallahassee, Thursday, April 27, to call out Governor Rick Scott and Republican state lawmakers for turning down $51 billion in federal funding for Medicaid expansion. While bills have been filed in both the House and Senate again this year, neither is moving.
As the legislative session nears its mid-point, Floridians across the state are voicing their frustration with Scott’s lack of leadership on one of the most fundamental needs of everyday, working families in his state. Scott’s gimmick-laden budget proposal again leaves out affordable health care expansion and he’s been silent and invisible on the issue during session, prompting advocates to wonder, “Governor, who are you working for?”
Meanwhile, concerned citizens will visit the district office of Rep. Bill Hager tomorrow to demand he address the expansion of affordable healthcare of all Floridians.
“These state lawmakers’ continued silence is deadly. The decision to put politics over people has left more than 750,000 Floridians without life saving care. Our friends and neighbors literally dying for healthcare,” said Christella Dorval, organizer for Service Employees International Union of Florida (SEIU Florida).
