A woman who jumped into a St. Petersburg police cruiser and sped away, after an officer reportedly left the keys in the ignition, is now behind bars.
Police arrested 22-year-old Vanessa Brooks on Sunday and charged her with grand theft, vehicle burglary, and obstructing an officer without violence, after she drove off in a St. Petersburg police cruiser, wtsp.com reported.
Two officers had gone to investigate a domestic incident when one of the officers left the ignition running. That’s when Brooks ran to the vehicle, jumped in and sped away.
The stolen cruiser was spotted a short while later and Brooks was arrested. According to wtsp.com, Brooks left the cruiser in gear before fleeing and the vehicle crash into a tree.
Brooks was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and is being held on a $4,500 bond.
