Woman under investigation in death of 3-year-old daughter

death-investigation-generic_med-2Orange County investigators are still trying to determine what led to the death of a 3-year-old girl on Saturday morning.

Yeliani Schwartz Ojeda, 3, died at the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, after being brought in Friday night around 9:30 p.m.

The girl’s mother, Maryann Schwartz, 22, had called 911 to report that the child had been struck by a car in the Grandview Point Apartments parking lot.  Maryann was driving Yeliani to the hospital when she was pulled over at John Young Parkway and Americana Boulevard and told to wait for first responders.

But according to Local 6, Maryann’s story about a hit-and-run driver injuring her daughter was not consistent with the medical examiner’s findings.

The autopsy report found that Yeliani Schwartz Ojeda died from blunt force trauma and the Medical Examiner is inconclusive as to whether she had been struck by a car. Additionally, the child was malnourished and had bruising which the Medical Examiner determined was related to prior abuse.

The eldest child in the home told investigators they were all punished, but little 3-year-old Yeliani, most severely, Local 6 also reported.

Meanwhile, three investigations are underway – The Department of Children and Families, OCSO and Florida Highway Patrol.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more.
