Orlando Police officers are investigating an incident where a mother on Tuesday, attempted to drive her car onto the Dr. Phillips High School practice field to confront players who her son claimed punched and struck him several times. Investigators are also looking into the battery claims of the woman’s son.
Rena Denson, 49, of Conroy Road, Orlando told investigators that her son, Darrion Denson, 15, told her he was punched, struck several times and chocked by another player. Her son also told her he believed several other unknown players may have struck him in the scuffle, during which he lost his wallet with $30.00, she told police. The incident stemmed from D. Denson being in the Varsity locker room, according to the Incident Report.
R. Denson, who received a message from her son, drove to the campus and onto the school’s practice field to confront the player(s), but was stopped by football coaches.
Police who arrived at the Dr. Phillips High School, at 6500 Turkey Lake Road around 3:15 pm, on Tuesday, said that D. Denson was transported to the Arnold Palmer Hospital. His injuries are unknown.
See Incident Report Here.
Investigators have not released the name of the player who allegedly battered D. Denson. They have referred the matter to the Assault and Battery Unit for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the matter of R. Denson attempting to drive onto the football practice field is also under investigation.
I’m not sure what disturbs me more, the incident or the comments from DP students saying it’s okay to have an exclusive place where other studentss are not allowed. Do you not understand that the ENTIRE school is funded by taxpayers? My son is a student at the school and I am afraid for him right now. If I find out that the players are not arrested and charged, and that disciplinary action is not taken against the coaches who stated it was okay to beat up another student, I will launch a class action lawsuit myself. Already, at least 7 other parents and myself are ready to take action. Be warned Dr. Phillips High School!!!!
All of you guys are crazy im just a normal highschool student and most of this so called assualt was made up if its a varsity locker room its for varisty players they deserve it their success brings our school so much money and if you try to shut that down you have serious issues the coach is defending his players and going off what they say which the truth is they put the kid in a trash can and let him go the mother is insane noone should be scared it is a great school and it is what you make out of it its horrible how people have to make up such rumors to get attention and the kids she are trying to blame are some of the nicest kids ive ever met.
I agree DP mom. I am anxious to see how this is handled. From the school to the police to the State Attorney. These boys should be expelled, not possibly suspended. They shouldn’t even be in school pending investigation because the truth is, if they were just the next average student they’d already be on suspension for much less. If the police call this a battery and not aggravated battery with great bodily harm, they’re wrong as well. That locker room is just that and nothing more.
I’m a student at Dr.Phillips High School it’s a VERY good school. Besides the food. That kid should have never went in there in the first place. EVERYBODY say DO NOT GO INTO THE SENIOR VARSITY LOCKER ROOM BECA– — USE YOU WILL GET JUMP! But no the kid didn’t listen. They gave him the chance to leave but he didnt leave. So they jumped him. But I guess he learned his lesson. Also I hope he feels better though. Get well soon!!!!
These kids need to learn that just because you are good at football, that does not mean you are a god. I was on my football team in high school, and I played with jerks who thought they could get away with everything. These kids need to be suspended and kicked off the team.
