A very unexpected delivery came to one Arizona gas station early Friday.

As a woman pulled into the Diamond Shamrock parking lot in Chandler, her daughter starting giving birth, right in the truck.

The gas station attendant said the woman’s mother ran into the store around 5:30am, frantic, and asked for an ambulance.

“The mother said she tried to stop, but the baby was already out,” said Gaudencia Black, the gas station attendant.

The mother came back into the store at Arizona Avenue and Riggs Road a short time later, but with a different request.

“We need scissors because the baby is out…What!” Black screamed, recounting what the mother said. “So I called the ambulance. And they said you can’t cut the cord with scissors, so I said, OK don’t do it.”

Emergency crews picked up the new mother at the gas station and transported her to a local hospital.

The woman’s mother then followed the ambulance to the ER.

The mother and baby — a newborn girl — are said to be resting at Gilbert Mercy Hosptial in stable condition, according to the Sun Lakes Fire Department.

“I think this is a lucky day at Diamond Shamrock Gas Station,” Black said.
