Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of a house fire just west of Daytona Beach which left an adult woman dead. Investigators found the woman’s body inside the charred home, located in the Daytona Highridge Estates subdivision.
The fire at 1461 Highridge Ave. was reported at around noon on Wednesday, after neighbors spotted smoke coming from the windows of the home. County firefighters began dousing the flames at 12:12 p.m. and then entered the residence and engaged in an aggressive interior attack of the fire. Firefighters found the victim at 12:19 p.m. Paramedics with County Fire Services and EVAC ambulance pronounced the victim dead at 12:23 p.m.
The name of the victim has not been released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
