Woman Dies in Crash After Failing to Stop at Flashing Red Light

A 63-year-old Geneva woman was killed after failing to stop at a flashing red light and collided with a pick-up at the intersection of Mullet Lake Park Road and West Osceola Road in Seminole County, troopers said.

Connie Lou Stowers was heading northbound on Mullet Lake Park Road on Wednesday just after 1:00 pm, when she entered the path of a Dodge pick-up driven by 31-year-old Michael T. Vieu, at the intersection of West Osceola Road.  Troopers said, Stowers failed to stop at a stop sign/flashing red light.

Vieu’s pick-up struck Stowers’ Honda Accord which traveled off the roadway and through a fence.  The pick-up rotated and struck a utility pole before coming to a final stop.

Stowers was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital where she died from her injuries. She was not wearing a seat-belt at the time of the crash.

Vieu suffered minor injuries. He was wearing a seat-belt.

Florida Highway Patrol is awaiting toxicology results to determine whether or not alcohol played a role in the crash.

Charges may be pending.
