A woman in Naples has been arrested, accused of choking her boyfriend after he turned down her marriage proposal, so she could remain legally in America.
24-year-old Nikoleta Karoly, of River Reach Drive, became violent with her boyfriend and allegedly choked and scratched him on Saturday, Collier County sheriff’s deputies said, naplesnews.com reported.
Karoly’s U.S. visa had expired last week and she was trying to get her boyfriend, whom she had been seeing for two months, to marry her but he refused. That’s when Karoly became violent. But apparently it wasn’t the first time.
Karoly’s boyfriend told deputies that the couple argued over the visa three weeks ago and she had punched him on that occasion, according to the newspaper. He said he was hesitant to marry her because she had become increasingly violent toward him.
Karoly was charged with domestic violence and booked into jail.
