A Hernando County woman was arrested yesterday, accused of child abuse, Sheriff’s deputies said.
45-year-old Kimberly Losurdo was taken into custody Thursday, after a 9-year-old child in her company, ingested cocaine and fell ill.
Authorities arrived at the Spring Hill where Losurdo lived to find the child convulsing and losing consciousness. Blood tests at a local hospital revealed cocaine in the child’s system.
Detectives, who interviewed the child at the hospital, learned that the 9-year-old had found an “irregular shaped, rock like” substance in the bathroom and ingested it on Christmas Day. The child also told detectives she had previously observed Losurdo smoking, snorting and ingesting drugs.
Losurdo advised investigators that she does smoke crack cocaine inside the residence and the child must have found a piece, ingested it, thinking it was candy. She confirmed that the child was in her company for at least 5-7 days and she called Fire Rescue when the 9-year-old began vomiting and began displaying flu-like symptoms, two days later.
A search of the residence turned up a crack-cocaine pipe, authorities said.
Authorities also say that the child is expected to make a full recovery. Meanwhile, the Department of Children and Families removed three children ages, 9, 11 and 16 from the home.
Losurdo was charged with child abuse and booked into the Hernando County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
