An Orlando woman who pretended to help an 89-year-old female driver after a crash, but instead stole her credit cards, was arrested today, police said.
Rachael L. Murray, 30, was taken into custody and booked into the Orange County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
Police say, the elderly woman was stuck inside her car and was waiting for paramedics and police to arrive, when Murray entered the vehicle and pretended to offer assistance.
Although Murray repeatedly told the woman she would be fine, at the same time she was searching the victim’s purse and stealing her credit cards, identification and Social Security card.
Murray made multiple transactions using the victim’s credit cards at numerous stores nearby, totally $2,000 dollars. Many of the items purchased with the stolen credit cards had been pawned, police said.
Detectives were able to track down Murray after following up with the stores where purchases had been made. The victim was able to identify Murray during a line up.
Murray faces multiple charges including, vehicle burglary, fraud using a credit card, scheme to defraud and credit card theft, among others.
