A Lakeland woman was arrested Friday, charged with the death of a bicylist in June, last year.
34-year-old Tashica W. Smith, of west Lowell Street, was taken into custody without incident, Polk County deputies said.
Smith is accused of killing 56-year-old James Galey, of Hatwood Street in Lakeland, after failing to stop at a red light on June 24, 2011.
Authorities said, Smith was driving a 1994 Ford Escort at 77 mph in a 45 mph zone, when she hit Galey as he crossed U.S. 92 on his bicycle.
Authorities also said, Smith and a witness in her vehicle told investigators, Smith was cleaning her glasses at the time of the crash.
Smith was booked into the Polk County Jail and is being held on $10,000 bond.
Deputies said, Smith has seven total prior arrest for charges including grand theft, failure to appear and violation of probation.
