A woman was recently arrested in a Central Florida road rage incident that resulted in a shooting.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the intersection of South Hilltop Road and West Brandon Boulevard in Brandon near Tampa, following reports of a shooting between two vehicles.
Upon deputies arrival, they located 21-year-old Aiden Richards with a gunshot wound, and the other involved party. Richards was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries to her lower body.
Detectives learned that both parties had stopped at a red light and engaged in an altercation.
In response, Richards discharged a firearm towards the other vehicle, striking it numerous times. The driver of the other vehicle retrieved a firearm and returned fire, striking Richards, according to law enforcement.
Richards faced charges of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon (x2), Attempted Murder in the Second Degree Firearm – Discharge (x2), and Shooting at Within or into a Vehicle (x2).
“This kind of behavior is dangerous, irresponsible, and could have easily ended in tragedy,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Using a firearm because you’re angry behind the wheel is beyond unacceptable. We will not allow this kind of chaos on our roadways, and those who choose violence will face serious consequences.”
This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
