Woman Arrested for Using Child to Help Commit Retail Theft in Central Florida

A woman was recently arrested for using a child to help her commit retail theft in Central Florida.

The retail theft occurred at the Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Davenport’s Posner Park.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the theft was committed by an adult female who used a male juvenile, approximately 9-year-old, to assist her.

The suspect took a $35 hoodie off a shelf, and put it on the boy. The two then went to a check-out lane, and the woman paid for a pair of baseball cleats with cash, but did not pay for the hoodie, according to local law enforcement.

A store employee said that the suspect and the boy have done this several times in the past.

Through the investigation, it was determined that the suspect was 33-year old Cumesha Loanmen, of Auburndale.

Cumesha and the boy came back to Dick’s, and the Sheriff’s Office was notified. PCSO members quickly came to the scene and took Cumesha into custody.

According to Cumesha, she was there to return the cleats she purchased earlier. Regarding the hoodie, Cumesha claimed that the boy somehow took the merchandise out of the store without her knowledge. She did not bring the hoodie back to return it.

Cumesha Loanmen was arrested and taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center where she was charged with Petit Theft and Causing a Child to be Delinquent. Cumesha was also charged with Violation of Probation (on probation from Osceola County for Trafficking in Stolen Property, False Information to Pawnbroker, and Theft).

Deputies notified the Department of Children and Families about the situation.
