A woman was arrested for killing a three-year-old in Central Florida.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigation began when the female victim passed away after being transported to Brandon Regional Hospital near Tampa with several inflicted injuries.
During the local law enforcement investigation, detectives learned that the injuries occurred while the victim was in the care of 29-year-old Grace Wingate. The Medical Examiner later ruled her death a homicide.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant and arrested Wingate and charged her with: Child Neglect (With Great Bodily Harm), Aggravated Child Abuse, and Murder in the First Degree While Engaged in Aggravated Child Abuse.
“This is a heartbreaking and disturbing case. A child lost her life at the hands of the person entrusted to protect her,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We will not tolerate violence against anyone in our community, especially innocent children, and we will work relentlessly with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure she faces the maximum consequences the law allows.”
