Windermere Turned Republican in Democratic Orange County

The Florida GOP celebrated that Windermere turned Republican in Democratic Orange County.

The Republican flip happened when Andy Williams became Mayor in the Town of Windermere after the close of candidate qualifying with no Democratic opponent.

With incumbent Democrat Jim O’Brien choosing not to seek re-election, Republican Andy Williams qualified without opposition. This officially flipped the mayor’s office to Republican control for the first time since 2019, the Florida GOP said.

“This Republican flip in Windermere underscores the reality on the ground in Florida,” said Florida Republican Party Chairman Evan Power. “With a 1.4 million voter registration advantage, Republicans are no longer conceding any county – even in once deep-blue Orange County. We are competing everywhere, and voters are turning to Republican leadership focused on accountability, fiscal discipline, and common sense.”

While the Democrats are usually in control, the Orange County Democratic Party could not recruit a candidate in the affluent Central Florida community.

The Florida GOP congratulated Mayor-Elect Andy Williams and said it looks forward to working with him as he serves the residents of Windermere.
