Windermere Town Manager, Cecilia Bernier has decided to call it quits.
In a letter to Winderemere Town Council Members, Ms. Bernier stated she was ending her tenure as Town Manager, “in light of recent controversy affecting the Town.”
Bernier’s March 24, letter added, “…it has become apparent to me that I can no longer effectively continue my service as Town Manager.”
Earlier this week at a Town Council meeting, Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn was shoved to the ground by Roland Bernier, Mrs. Bernier’s husband, after he called for her removal. In Bruhn’s view, Mrs. Bernier had brought disrepute to the city’s reputation by hiring former Windermere Police Chief Daniel Saylor, who has been charged with hindering a FDLE investigation of one of his friends, concerning rape against a minor.
Noting that she had given twenty-eight years of service to the Town of Windermere, Bernier said in her letter she was prepared to continue as Town Manager on an interim basis, until a replacement was identified.
There are news reports that Mayor Bruhn plans to file assault charges.
