Orange County Schools Superintendent Barbara Jenkins could become Florida’s next lieutenant governor.
Jenkins, 52, is a leading contender and could be picked by Gov. Rick Scott to replace former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Carroll abruptly resigned in March in the wake of an ongoing Internet Cafe scandal.
Scott’s communications director, Melissa Sellers said in an e-mail, a new Lieutenant Governor is all speculation, as the process has not yet begun, the paper also reported.
Jenkins was picked as Orange County Schools Superintendent following the retirement of Ron Blocker, one year ago.
Jenkins, like Carroll, is African American; she is a registered democrat.
