Whoa! Floridians say Legislature Doing Lousy Job

A new Quinnipiac University poll out Tuesday found that only 33 percent of Florida voters approve of the way the state Legislature is handling its job while 49 percent disapprove. One caveat in the poll: it was taken Jan. 4-8 and lawmakers are not yet in session, so perceptions are either general, based on committee meetings, or based on last year’s legislative work.

Still, the 33 percent approval rating is lower than Gov. Rick Scott – 38 percent of those polled say they generally approve of the job he’s doing.

As should be expected with Republicans overwhelmingly in control of the Legislature, GOP voters like the Legislature better, with 56 percent approving the job the Legislature is doing to 26 percent who disapprove. But 55 percent of independents disapprove of the Legislature and 67 percent of Democrats.

The Quinnipiac poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percent.
