WCF Partners with UCF to Host STEM Expo

Workforce Central Florida (WCF), in partnership with the University of Central Florida College of Engineering and Computer Science, will present STEM Expo, a special event for more than 1,400 Orange County middle and high school students that is designed to introduce careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and pique students’ interest in pursuing a STEM career. The event will be held at Cypress Creek High School on November 4 from 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Students from Cypress Creek High feeder schools will attend this event after completing a STEM exploration career assessment that will help them narrow down the type of industries that may interest them. All students will then be assigned a color based on their STEM industry interests, and all employers will be color-coded based on industry. This will allow attendees to easily identify with STEM employers that match their interests.

The Expo will provide information on STEM careers including the education needed and the salaries earned. Students will have the opportunity to interact with more than 20 STEM companies such as SAIC, Northrup Grumman, Boeing, U.S. Army PEO STRI, the United States Navy and Walt Disney World and participate in hands-on exhibits.

Since development of the STEM program in April 2007, WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA has provided 115 programs to job seekers, students and teachers in Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Sumter counties.
