In an effort to raise awareness, Terry Bartley of Greensboro, North Carolina, filmed himself locked in a car on a 90 degree day, to get a feel for what is must be like for those kids that parents forget in their cars.
In 2013, in the U.S., 44 children, left in cars, died from heatstroke. And in 2014, to date, 17 heatstroke deaths have been confirmed, although five are still pending official findings by the medical examiner, according to the Department of Earth and Climate Sciences, of San Francisco State University. In 2012, there were 34 deaths of children due to hyperthermia, after being left in or having gained access to hot cars, trucks, vans and SUVs.
Since 1998, there have been at least 623 documented cases of heatstroke deaths of children in vehicles.
