Businessman Derrick Wallace, candidate in the race for Orange County Commission, District 6, thrilled about 250 children with Christmas toy giveaways at three area schools, earlier this week.
At Ivey Lane, Eccleston and Washington Shores Elementary School, attended by hundreds of needy children, Wallace and his wife, Sharon, delivered 80 toys each to family intervention specialists at the three schools. The schools’ family intervention specialists will determine the most needy kids who will receive the toys.
“There are many children in need and I know I can assist,” said Wallace. “I can imagine not being able to provide for your kids, particularly at this time and I love being able to donate these toys for children in need.”
Wallace, who recently got married at a ceremony at his home, witnessed by hundreds of Orange County residents, family members and friends, had requested toys for the area’s needy kids, in lieu of gifts.
A community builder, Wallace is running to become the next Orange County Commissioner in District 6, an area characterized by high poverty, low-income and too high crime.
The primary election will be held on August 26, 2014 and the general election on November 4, 2014.
